Senior Data Engineer

Senior Data Engineers in this role have a unique opportunity to engage with advanced cloud infrastructure solutions and the exceptional people who develop them. In this role, you are a data expert with direct influence on the success of AWS's hyper-scale data center business as you apply your expertise to:
. Collaborate with teams across AWS to develop data infrastructure and pipelines to drive analytics and visualizations for programs from initial experimentation to production deployment
. Build unique, high quality, reliable, accurate, and repeatable data sets that are optimized for business intelligence and highlight AWS's business needs
. Build and automate data systems used for planning and prioritizing resources for thousands of critical projects across hundreds of AWS data centers globally
. Identify trends, make data consumable, generate meaning from the data, report transparently, and identify things that look interesting
. Apply the latest SQL and AWS big data technologies to extract, transform, write code, and load data from a wide variety of data sources - get creative!
. Recognize and be responsive to emerging best practices in reporting, automating, and simplifying self-service support for customers
This role requires strong technical skills, including knowledge of SQL database design and multiple programming languages with the ability to work across a vast array of data platforms and organizations, along with a healthy imagination to develop solutions that enable leaders to make data driven decisions and teams to execute them.

Each day you will collaborate with and support different teams responsible for engineering, development, finance, integration, and implementation of complex data center projects. You prioritize your activities to get the best data in front of the right people.


We have an immediate opening for a Senior Database Engineer in Herndon, Virginia or in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia - location and schedule are flexible.

Basic Qualifications:

. Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field; or 6+ years equivalent experience (experience may be substituted for a degree)
. 4+ years' experience in Structured Query Language (SQL)
. 2+ years' proficiency and experience in one of Python, Perl, or Shell script

Preferred Qualifications:

. Experience with investigating, familiarizing, and evaluating multiple data sets
. Experience in data modelling
. Experience designing and implementing data visualizations
. Experience with multiple database platforms
. Experience with enterprise class BI and Analytics tools such as Tableau, R/SAS, and OBIEE
. Master's degree in a quantitative or technical field
. 5+ years experience with object-oriented design and implementation experience (Ruby, Java, Python, and/or C++)
. 2+ years experience with Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design and problem solving
